Gollum, the Wikipedia Browser

Gollum what?
Gollum is the name of my newest crime of invention. By reducing the complexity of information, I have created a fast and eyefriendly browser through the free encyclopedia "Wikipedia". Originally this invention was built up for my daughter but now I have expanded it to the world for free as an open source project under GPL.

Night at the Museum / Museum Ke Andar Phans Gaya Sikander!

Ben stiller's Night at the museum, this is one hilarious movie! In the first half the things are just picking up, but the second half is super! I like it.

Interestingly, the English version hasn't been released at all in India. All Indian releases are dubbed in Hindi, with the name "Museum Ke Andar Phans Gaya Sikander" And it isn't just another run-o-the-mill dubbing (which usually sucks). This one is impressive. The dialogues go with the spirit of the movie and lot of customisation for the indian movie-goer's. It shows those extra efforts, to get it just right.

Is this an acknowledgement of the large Indian market? Is this the beginning of something new? Given the fact that the releases in both the languages were so synchronised, it might well be...

Ralink usb driver and driver utility patch

The last month a friend asked me for help to make his wireless card (A ralink usb) work... He could "compile" the driver (This one, from ralinktech.com RT25USB-SRC-V2.0.7.0.tar.gz), but he commented out some things in the code that he needed. Then the system got slow and the story kept going from bad to worse.
Ok, enough of the story... Let's go to the facts. Things that I changed and fixed with this patch:

Fixed: _WIN32_WINNT warnings (Let's use WIN32_LEAN_AND_MEAN before)

Fixed: DBG warning (ok, an ifdef before usage is not a bad idea ;) )

Changed verify_area for access_ok (that was pretty old! The driver doesn't even see that old function)

Added a compilation time debug system (This is why my friend came to me in the first place, then I realised the verify_area issue. The logs were huge!). To activate or deactivate it see config.h, DEBUG_NOMIUS 0 means no debuging, a number different than 0 will enable it.

Added stdlib.h to qhexvalidator.h in the driver utility (without it, it doesn't even compile)

Fix the driver utility (raconfig) with threaded compiled versions of qt

A version of the driver with the patch applied can be found here: http://dcortarello.googlepages.com/RT25USB-SRC-V2.0.7.1.tar.gz

The patch goes as an attachment in this entry:

Computer Stopped Crashing

My machine has been halting and rebooting because of (what I have discovered is) a faulty memory subsystem. I have swapped the modules around in their slots and haven't experienced a problem so far.

The problem began when my landlord hired builders to fit some new doors within my house; they knocked through the door frames without covering any of my equipment. That left a thick layer of brick dust on all my belongings, and has clearly mal-affected my hardware :-/
