OpenBSD creator Theo de Raadt [interview] announced today that OpenBSD fans can now begin pre-ordering the upcoming 3.4 release. He explains:

"This release will ship around November 1. CDs ship in the order that people place their orders. As many of you have noticed, we normally get the product back from the plant about a week before November 1 and many buyers have held them in your hands before the actual release date. So placing your order now helps :)"

He goes on to describe, "The artwork theme this time around is around Puffy Hood and his Funny Fish, denizens of the Nothing Hack forest.... taking on evil forces of unelected government...." Find an overview of what's new in 3.4 and a complete changelog on the OpenBSD project's web pages. Read on for Theo's complete announcement.

As some of you might have noticed, pre-orders for OpenBSD 3.4 are up
and running.

This release will ship around November 1. CDs ship in the order that
people place their orders. As many of you have noticed, we normally
get the product back from the plant about a week before November 1 and
many buyers have held them in your hands before the actual release
date. So placing your order now helps :)

We do not yet have t-shirt or poster artwork finalized; Ty the graphic
artist is very busy the last few days, so hopefully within a few days
we will have something available.

For those who want to see what we have done, check

The artwork theme this time around is around Puffy Hood and his Funny
Fish, denizens of the Nothing Hack forest.... taking on evil forces of
unelected government.... anyways, you'll see in a while. I intend to
release the new song in about 3 weeks.

Thanks for your support.

Anyone else notice that Deadly.org is no longer allowing comments? I think it's pretty sad that anyone that doesn't think OpenBSD is the greatest thing on earth is clearly a troll. What's that? You offered criticism? Implying that Theo might be wrong? Troll! Delete his post!

So sad...

i'm sorry but you don't get it. deadly.org has been a victim of many troll attacks recently, and i don't mean people who have some kind of constructive criticism, but real trolls. for example, some sick person who insisted on posting links to his depraved stuff, or the blind and nonsense criticism coming from (supposedly) the pax people because of openbsd's new security features.

unfortunatly, the page maintainers don't have the time to deal with this kind of things, so it was their only option. i can only hope it's a temporary thing.

The only "trolls" I can find

The only "trolls" I can find are people that are criticizing OpenBSD for perfectly valid reasons, complete with supporting evidence, followed by Theo fanboys spouting flames and nonsense. But, if that's what Deadly wants to label as a troll, perhaps it's best that they closed comments. *shrug*

would you mind posting *one*

would you mind posting *one* link to people "criticizing OpenBSD for perfectly valid reasons, complete with supporting evidence"?

i've only found stupid posts by stupid phrack people. thankfully, the links to the depraved stuff mentioned above were removed. the pax trolls are still in the archives, for anyone who's interested.

Your 'pax people' have been collectively on vacation until today (without internet access), so you owe us an apology it seems.

Furthermore, having had a look at the deadly.org posts in question, there seems to be no technically incorrect information as far as the above mentioned OpenBSD features are concerned. If you disagree, feel free to share your arguments here (just remember to keep them technical and not ad hominem as above) and we'll respond accordingly.

Thank you in advance for keeping it a civilized discussion.

and there you are again, you
