Need PC XT reference (1985?)

I think \dev\aux was another way to refer to the second serial port. Either that or the cassette device which was used to store BASIC programs when the PC XT has only 16K (yes K, not M or G) of RAM. Since XP is descended from this ancient stuff all of these DOS things aux, con, prn, com1, com2, lpt1, lpt2, ... are "reserved".
This would all be in an ancient IBM BASIC/MS GW Basic Manual from the era of the PC XT.

The funny thing is MSFT defeated IBM at the advent of the 1.44M floppy -- IBM shipped IBM PC DOS 3.3 without the ability to write to the "new" 1.44M drives, it "needed more testing". (They shipped a fix after only a few more months testing). MSFT rushed in a last minute, "untested" fix to MSDOS 3.3 that made the 1.44M floppy drives work. After that, buying IBM vs. MSFT was an easy decision for corporations, which has lasted until today. The question is, was this a "management decision" at IBM, or just inertia of having put an absurd testing process in place?

Today, IBM likes to sell a very outdated Linux which it has "tested very thoroughly...". Since the response has been less than stellar, it decided to stab the rest of Linux in the back with the rest of its patent deal. I stab back by actually recommending MSFT over the IBM garbage, and I hate MSFT.

I suspect Bill Gates learned all the evil he knows from IBM; at the time IBM was under an antitrust agreement and had to make 50% of all its new projects fail to comply. I can just imagine "[IBM salesman]: Bill if we only could [get away with it], here's how we'd approach that customer...". Bill "I'm not under an antitrust agreement, thanks for the help...".

You can't "run" mp3 files, in the same way you can't run jpg or html file.

Data formats, like mp3, jpg or html need a program which interprets them.

That being said, it is another mysterious Windows trick that you can't have files which have a single extension and aux at the beginning.
