Openbsd 3.9 Firewall issues

Hello im new to Openbsd but not unix. Im trying to setup an firewall using pf in openbsd 3.9 ive setup my nic cards which are both 3com nics, now the issue that im having is that on the internal nic card i have a crossover cable running from the interal nic to the uplink port on a cisco switch. when i plugged in the crossover cable im not gettting a link light. however to take that same cable and connect it to my linksys router i get a link light. can someone help me out on this one ??.

Try using a normal cable, not a crossover. If the normal cable allows the link light to come on, then the connection is correct and data should flow normally. Most new routers automatically switch their port wiring internally to accomodate either normal or crossover cable types. The LinkSys is doing this, but the Cisco is not.

I'm not sure why you would even want to plug a network card into an uplink port though, as this action will probably not work right no matter what kind of cable that you use. Try plugging into a normal port on the router using a normal cable.

Use a normal Cable. Cross over cables are only for interconnecting Swiches/Routers or inteconnection of PC'S directly. And don't forget to give the Catalyst some secs to negotiate could take up to 30 secs :-)

The reason why i was using a crossover cable was because im conifguring openbsd as a router/firewall and i needed to interconnect with my cisco switch.
