Hi,
My Toshiba satellite A60-122 laptop is locked with bios password. How can I remove the password?
I tried the parallel and USB security key to unlock this laptop. But nothing happened.
Please give me a solution for this.
This is very urgent for me.
Thanks

if he purchased his laptop as I did from a 'and I use the term loosely' reputable deeler like fryes and it was a return that was not processed by fryes then he would be in the same predicament I'm in with a pc originally registered under someone elses name although I purchased mine directly from fryes the idiot who had it first has it registered at toshiba under his name and I have to take the time to return it to fryes or toshiba. that is the reason why I don't call support because its a waste of time if the answer I need is available on the web. The annoying side of this is I was a support technician for 7 years and now almost all support is out of the country and barely speaks english.
You are quite a piece of work
You are quite a piece of work.
Though you are right that this is not the proper forum for the question, your insight is amazing that you knew that there was a reference to stolen property. You should be on tour.
I have exactly the same problem with a family members legal laptop. There are lots of people out there that can't remember a password that some young self proclaimed computer expert puts on their BIOS setup access. Then the expert moves and they are stuck. Unless you registered the computer yourself it is impossible to reconcile an error in the data that the manufacturer might have in the registration database.
Why is it that there is always some self proclaimed expert out there that can tell so much about someone by reading a forum thread?
These laptops which use an ex
These laptops which use an external serial EEPROM to store the master and ATA password can corrupt the EEPROM if the system powers off at the wrong moment during POST, leading to a password being set even when the user never set it.
hey, some of us have
hey, some of us have problems, I got lost my password too and thats doesnot mean its stolen freak! by the way thanks for your help. you must be on NASA, expert.
Since you are ignorant to
Since you are ignorant to the fact of Toshiba laptops. We do not have STOLEN merchandise. Toshiba laptops lock out with a BIOS password and the company is doing nothing to fix the problem. DO YOU RESEARCH BEFORE YOU CALL PEOPLE THIEVES.

I don't have a stolen laptop - I just can't get into my laptop satellite - sometimes we older folk just don't remember things as well as we should.
Not a Kernel Question
This is not a kernel-related question. It is not even an operating system related question.
Whether or not the original p
Whether or not the original post comes from someone whose intentions are dishonest, I don't know - however:
There is a known problem - apparently being worked on by Toshiba at this time - where some new model units spontaneously set a BIOS password.
Since this was not mentioned I would assume that is not the case in this situation.
It's worth mentioning that the original poster can have this password reset by a Toshiba repar centre.
Toshiba spontainously sets password
I recently purchased a toshiba laptop model a-135 that spontaniously set a password. Toshiba will not cover the repair costs because they insist that BIOS passwords have to be physically set by a user. This is impossible because I have had sole physical posession of the computer and would have no idea how to set it myself.
computer hates me
i have the same problem with my A/135 i was on amazon.com when suddly my computer shut off on me and when i turned it back on i asked for a bios password even though i have never set one im the only one who uses my computer so if you have found an easy way to get around this little problem please share the info
PHOENIX PASSWORD MANUAL
WHY CANT THE FUCKING LAPTOP COMPANIES MAKE A FUCKING MANUAL ON HOW TO FUCKING SETTLE WITH THE GAY PHOENIX PASSWORD CRAP !
Reset passwd
There may be a jumper on the board to accomplish this but you basically need to locate the prom storing the bios settings, find pin #1, grounding and momentarily shorting it out should erase your settings and force you to enter new ones and optionally a new password. Good luck.
No, that won't work. First o
No, that won't work. First of all, the BIOS settings are stored in NVRAM, not a prom. Second of all, the password is not stored in NVRAM on any modern machine, it either is stored on the hard disk blocks, or in a serial eeprom. And if it is a supervisor password, the hard disk is also locked with it via the ATA hdd lock. The only thing you can do is find a factory backdoor or somehow recover the password from the serial eeprom.

I was looking for help with my laptop which set a bios password on me. And i just want to say that my cp is not stolen. i bought it 2 months ago and i have a receipt. My cp froze up so i took out the battery to shut it off, when i turned it back on it said enter password. i did not set a bios on it. And i did call toshiba. they said its not under my warranty and i had to send it to a repair center.

Resetting/removing The Toshiba BIOS Password
This works only for some models.
Power unit off. Disconnect AC power. Remove battery. Remove the memory cover screw, memory cover and the memory modules. Peel back mylar from JOPEN1 solder pad. Short solder JOPEN1 solder pads for 30 seconds. Replace mylar. Replace memory modules. Replace battery. Power up unit. If all is well, replace memory cover and screw.
IT WORKS
I have a Toshiba A135-s2276 and I was having this problem too. So I tried this thinking that nothing could get any worse on it but when I did this, it worked. The only changes that I did was I left the battery in and put the memory modles back in before I started it up. It then asked me to pick either F1 - Continue or F2 - Setup. Click on set up and go to the security tab and then change both the user password and the superviser password to something you will know (letmein is a good one for this purpose). Then go to exit and exit saving changes. The computer will then restart and ask you for the password in which you just set it. It should then start up like normal.

I removed the Mylar, But am unsure what are considered the Jopen1 solder pads.. and what did you use to short them?
WORKS
Shorting the jopen1 works on Toshiba A135 Series. GREAT POST! Got the BIOS error and now I can boot into windows with no password set.
WORKS
I am illiterate when it comes to these things, but am having the same problem. If you could e-mail me to let me know what the memory cover, memory modules, mylar, and JOPEN1 solder pads are, that would be great!! I'm a college student desperately in need of my computer! Thanks!

Sorry! I just realized the e-mail doesn't show up, so if you could just post it, that would be great! Thanks!

Hi, I'm having problems with a Satellite A166-100 bios, I brought my computer from spain to brazil and they won't fix it around here. Just tried this for the Toshiba M100. It works too, but on this model the jumper is labelled "CMOS_CLR1". Thanks for the tip.

This work for my Toshiba Satellite A105-s2194 with this little diferences:
Power unit off. Disconnect AC power. Remove battery. Remove the memory cover screw, memory cover and the memory modules. Peel back the black lebel back from memory module 1, I soldered PAD500 solder pads (to short circuit them), install one memory memory in slot 2 and turned pc on, it erase the password and boot without asking for one. Then power off desolder PAD500, replace mylar. Replace memory modules. Replace battery. Power up unit, replace memory cover and screw. Toshiba A105 Bios Password
Please help me with this. I bought a used Toshiba A105-S4074 laptop for my mother for Christmas. When I power it on, I am prompted for a password (black screen with blue password box). Apparently this password sets itself spontaneously. I see on an above post that I need to jump (or short circuit) the PAD500 pads. Will someone please explain to me where they are at? I took the memory out and peel off the black stickers underneath, but I still am not sure what I need to jump.

I have a Toshiba A135-SS4426 (Satellite)
Toshiba A105 - Startup password
I live in the Cayman Islands and I work with computers every day. Earlier this year a friend bought a Toshiba A105-S4547 laptop in Miami and brought it to the Cayman Islands. About a month ago it spontaneously asked for a password at boot up even thought that feature had not been enabled. As there is no Toshiba service center here, I fixed it myself by completely disassembling the computer and removing the CMOS battery. This was not an easy task and took over 2 hours to complete. The battery actually had to be desoldered and the connection to the motherboard from it are tiny. This was not an easy job but it worked. I only removed the battery for a few minutes to clear the BIOS. When someone says "Remove the battery" they may have no idea how difficult this can be on some laptops. The kicker is that it has now happened again! Toshiba sucks! I would be happy to find out how to fix this problem without having to spend 2 hours disassembling and reassembling the laptop again.
