can't get started

This is about attempt # 69 to put up another blog entry. I keep starting them and never really finishing. So in my favorite, unordered list format, are quick updates:

  • If you're ever trying to install Oracle on a Linux/PPC box (like an IBM OpenPower 720), and you can't figure out when the hell the library dependency is when ld complains that it "cannot find -lxl", you need libxl. It's provided as part of IBM's compiler for PPC. Get that and you're golden.
  • My band, The Andys (formerly TrashMagnet), is playing next week, on Friday, January 6th. We're playing with Broken, which is a pretty decent local band that I used to play with in Pigeon.
  • Neil P bought a 2000 Trans-Am today, because he missed his old car so much. He let me drive it today coming back to work from Chipotle. It's nice.
  • Man, I'm tired. Olympic sleeping tonight.
  • I don't want to say too much and jinx things, but may be on the cusp of a relationship...I'm smitten at the very least. I'll keep you informed.

The 2000's and higher?

He's got the heads up display on that thing then right?

I've never actually seen one but I hear they're cool.

no HUD

Maybe it was an option, but I've never seen it on anything but Cadillacs. Maybe the Corvette has it; I don't know.

In any case, it makes me want another butt-rock Camaro to start fixing up.

HUDs in odd places

There were some models of Pontiac Grand Prixs (Maybe the GTPs or something) that had a HUD in them too. Remeber seeing one in '95 when I got my Lumina, but I don't recall the exact version of the Grand Prix.

Well now both of you have cars much cooler than my new one, but I just filled up the second tank of gas at 32.8 mpg, so it all works out in the end. My toaster is definatly an aquired taste.

Did you buy an Element?

Still got the Jeep, the trade-ins I was looking at getting for it were a LOT less than what it's worth to me to just keep. And the Scion XB isn't much good for moving stuff around. Great for people, not for stuff. Seats 4 way more comfortably than the Jeep ever did, and 60% better fuel economy, and the payments are about the same all said and done.

Besides, you know how the NFCU loan process works. They just roll your old loan up into the new one anyway, regardless of what you get for it trade-in. I figure now that I have the title in-hand, though, I can just sell it outright.

Might make a good band equipment hauller, come to think of it.....
