VMWare and 2.6.14-rc2-mm?

After battling a bit of trouble with VMWare and recent mm kernels I have been able to get VMWare 4.5 and 5 running under 2.6.13-rc6-mm1. I've posted instructions here. I recently however, have been trying to run 2.6.14-rc2 with the mm patches (tried both mm1 and mm2) and have run into a problem that I can't seem to troubleshoot.

It seems that I can run vmware-config.pl to compile the modules just fine, but when I try to fire up one of my virtual machines my system reboots. Instantly... Like, I push the button to start a virtual machine and, within a second, I'm looking at my BIOS memory count. I would love to collect more data to troubleshoot this but because there are no error messages or anything else to refer to, I know not where to start.

An interesting side note, I find virtually no information on the net (using google) about other VMWare users running mm kernels.

almost forgot...

Almost forgot: I'm pretty sure the problem pertains to the mm patch because I find people discussing VMWare with the 2.6.14-rc kernels who seem to be quite happy.

same problem, 2.6.14-nitro

I have VMWare running on 2.6.4-nitro1 without any problem. In fact it performs so well I am surprised.

The kernel was built using the Gentoo defaults, if that will help any one.
