The Saas-Bahu Effect

Last weekend, the 15-Aug-weekend, I was at my home. I managed to watch a lot of TV over the weekend. I was absolutely bored with the same old borring and dragging themes of the Saas-Bahu serials. The number of such serials has increased quite a lot, Hindi/Marathi all types, at all times. Targetted toward the housewives, and hence focusing on the Saas-Bahu relationship, the serials find a lot of viewership.

Worst part about these serials is really that their plot sucks! One of the most hilarious plots, was, one bad woman in a serial threatened another person to marry her, or she will do something stupid like killing her own child or something. And that idiotic person was ready to marry this woman, against his will, even though he was already married to someone else! WTF? The plot keeps dragging, the characters keep changing, old characters die or are replaced, and new characters are introduced at frequent intervals, but the viewership keeps rising...

I want to drive attention to a -ve effect that this might have on our society. All these serials show one person (woman ofcourse) to be good natured (the ideal person), and all the rest of the world is against her, devising evil plots to insult her, hurt her emotionally, and what all and what not... When you are being bombarded with this same thing from so many different places, it is bound to have a brain-washing effect on you, well, overtime, yes. I think the effect is, more people are going to start thinking in a crooked manner. Why not, you keep watching this stuff, and you start thinking about all that evil as a no big deal. Yeah, it is not deliberate, but at the subconscious level it is making an impact. It builds on you ever so slowly.

Absolutely.
why waste valuable human life in such crap.
Easier said than done, i myself sometimes find myself engrossed in the idot box, but basically look for a fun-filled movie.
Not only these serials, but new movies also has lots of sex crap in it.
I remember times when watching unexpected nudity or obscenity with parents would cause enormous amount of embarassment.
The only solution to this is to invest time in something meaningful, my pick would be a devotional discourse.
