alps touchpad with 2.6.11.3 kernel

hello,

I got a toshiba A30-901 laptop that is feeted with an alps touchpad.

The fact is that I it is not detected by my Debian Sarge (2.6.8.2 kernel)

With the 2.6.8.1 kernel, it works with a special configuration and the i8042.nomux kernel argument. But I don't know which kernel .config parameter make it work : with the standard kernel configuration, it doesn't work.

Recently I downloaded the 2.6.11.3 kernel. But it unpossible to make it work with it.
My keyboard is only detected when the kernel is loaded and when I pull the MAJ key. On this event I got this message "input: AT Translated Set 2 Keyboard on isa0060/serio0". And I can make use of my keyboard only after this operation.
In the /proc/bus/input/devices I never find my alps touchpad, but only the keyboard.
With the 2.6.8.1 kernel, I don't need to do this operation.

I tried severals differents 2.6.11.3 kernel configuration by comparing my .config file with the 2.6.8.1 .config file.
I tried also differents kernel argument at boot time.
But I never had the good configuration between all those parameters.
I wanted to try the patchs for 2.6.11 kernels, but they only works until your touchpad is detected.

So I hope that someone here will be able to give me some information on this tricky thing that I can't catch.

Thanks, Excuse me for my pitty english.
MARC

I just applied the 2.6.12-rc1 patch and saw that there was quite alot of changes to the alps driver. Compiling it now, so haven't tested if it works better. But hey, try it!

I compiled my linux kernel wi

I compiled my linux kernel with the usb + uhci + ohci + ehci drivers builted.
The keyboard is now recognized after the start up.
I don't have to hit the left MAJ key after each start up any more.
But the touchpad is still not recognized.
(touchpad support, i8042 support, ps2 mouse & ps2 keyboard, AT keyboard are builted into my kernel)

I don't want to try the unstable kernel release. So I will still work a few on my kernel to get the touchpad recognized. It was recognized with my 2.6.8.1 kernel. So it must be recognized too by the 2.6.11.3 kernel.

Yeah, that's work

Hello,

After searching in this forum, I found that the alps driver if used with acpi cause a problem, the touchpad is not detected.

So when you boot your kernel with parameter acpi=off or noacpi, the touchpad is perfectly recogenized.
But you can also use both acpi and your alps touchpad by commenting a line the following file : -/linux.2.6.11/drivers/input/serio/i8042.c

So... Thank you very much Jeremy :-)
