>What kind of loser still runs 2.4.x ;p It's alla bout 2.6 baby!
You Insensitive clod, I run 2.4.x
It's all about stabillity, du
It's all about stabillity, dumbass!
I still run it, for the simpl
I still run it, for the simple reason that 2.6 is unstable on my system.
WOW
What kind of loser still runs 2.4.x ;p It's all about 2.6 baby!
UPGRADE OR DIE!
Or...
Upgrade or run stable in many cases, unfortunately. Still no luck on two out of my three systems.
WOW
>UPGRADE OR DIE!
WRONG, DUMBASS!
You forgot that I can choose what kernel, I want to run on my computer.
I wish I could
Vendor lock-in forces us to stay on 2.4 on our webservers. They (the hosting platform that predates me at this company) refuse to support anything but the "redhat kernel" I of course won't adhere to that bs, so I have compiled my own vanilla kernel.org kernels. and guess what? Load average has gone down exponentially since I did that. I do wish I could run 2.6 on these things though.
The exponential function
How can you say that your load average "has gone down exponentially" when you only have two data points, before upgrading and after? I think someone needs to retake basic algebra.
Just because there are only d
Just because there are only data points doesn't mean that it has to be linear (or any other function.) Granted, a more technically accurate statement would have been "the time has decayed exponentially." If it the time halved, then the half-life is ~.2 kernel versions. This statement is not invalid because the data does not disprove it. I can't be sure of the extrapolation but that doesn't make it wrong.
Pedantry
No, it's an unreasonable claim to make based on the available data. Like claiming there are faries living on Pluto. We've never looked, so there's no evidence it's not true - but it's still silly to claim it.
Linksys wireless routers stil
Linksys wireless routers still use 2.4.20 (patched of course) but still 2.4.x so there are plenty of users of this kernel. Maybe you run this kernel (if you own a WRT54G) and don't know it :)
