Older mm kernels worked fine. I'm on a dual Athlon computer. As the kernel starts the last message on the screen is "BIOS check successful" (or something like that). Then nothing at all.
I've used the same procedure to build this time as in the past (I'm on gentoo linux). The only changes in the .config is the defaults from make oldconfig.
I'm not asking for help in getting my system going. Rather I'm asking if anyone else is having the same problems, or is this isolated to my computer.

The problem was apparently in the BIOS Enhanced Disk Drives. Something has recently changed there and it now no longer works for me. I turned off this feature and everything is fine again.
