Networked printer

Our Brother MFC 3100c died a little while ago. It kept coming up with "Machine Error 41"

Anyway, that AIO was the only reason I still had a solo winblows machine on my home network. After looking on LinuxPrinting.org I found that an Epson that I liked was supported by gimp-print. Actually the one I was looking at wasn't listed, but since it was just a recently released "upgrade" I figured it should work.

A few people had posted problems they had had getting the Stylus CX6400 (I have the CX6600) working with a earlier kernel than 2.4.21. However I'm running Fedora Core1 with kernel 2.4.19, and everything just worked.

Now the issue I'm about to try, but want to find out everything I can on first is, how to have the printer hooked up to the ex-X-Box downstairs in the basement and be able to print to it from the other computers through out the house.

Most everything I came across so far only addresses linux to winblows or winblows to linux printing using Samba. I refuse to have windows on anything except the dual-boot laptops we use for school (damn institutions still strictly use that crap).

I'm going to be running Gentoox Pro v1.4, after I wipe out Gentoox Home that I screwed up testing some things out on. Which is the reason Dave'sVersion has been down for quite a while.

Suggestions/recommendations that don't involve anything M$ related will be greatly appreciated.

They make USB adapters for the controller slots so you can use a usb mouse and keyboard for games, you could try one of those.

If I remember correctly, we had the same rate in the USCG/Navy. RM??

I made my own little adapter at the same time as I was attaching the mod-chip, although it was via removing the fourth controller connection and putting a tiny four port USB hub in it's place.

My issue is with getting the laptop to talk to the printer via the eX-Box.

I haven't modded my x-box for fear of screwing it up. I'm handy and soldering isn't rocket science but... I get hesitant.

I get confused at times and didn't realize you were talking about the software layer of your x-box mod.

Yeah, I was RM, so what electro-boy?!

They are well supported by gimp-print, but damn, they sure don't last long. The 785EPX that I bought and barely used is already screwed up; it won't feed paper correctly anymore. HP probably isn't any better.

Save your pennies and buy a color laser. They're pretty cheap these days. You'll thank me for it.

I already bought the thing and have been using it.

I'm just tired of having to plug the thing and re-boot in order to get the laptop to print to it.

Besides wanting to be able to move it downstairs out of the way.

I WAS looking at the laser's to begin with (network card already installed, no computer to have to setup for it) but Evy looked at me like I was crazy.

So I went for the one for $150.
