Anybody out there got a new ABIT NF7-S2G motherboard with and on board SATA controller? I can't seem to get the kernel for Debian or Mandrake loaded without getting the following message...

PCI_IDE UNKNOWN IDE CONTROLLER PCI DBUS 00 DEVICE 58 VID=10de, DID=008e

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Its my first LINUX PC. I expected to struggle a bit but not like this. :)

You need to compile a 2.6.8.1

You need to compile a 2.6.8.1 kernel with the nice libata, SCSI and the sata_nv driver to run the nVIDIA RAID controller on the board.

Thanks for your help. Basically I have worked around the problem by installing an IDE hard drive and loading the basic kernel. I will get the SATA source code and install as soon as I can, so I can use the 250 gig SATA drive.

I'll let you know how it pans out.

Thanks again,

Joe
