I have compiled a 2.6.6 kernel on debian and I have no display. The box still boots fine and I can access it over ssh. I have no text console or X console, no boot messages etc. Tim
try to disable the framebuffer in your kernel.
Well, can you post your .config file... I think you didn't enabled virtual terminal(with console support).
are you using devfs?
