I have a problem with my networkcard (it's a Longshine LCS-8037TXR) with a Realtek 8169 Chip, when I use either the 2.6.6 or the 2.6.7 kernel with build in r8169-driver. If I connect to another computer with ssh or telnet then the connection freezes after a few seconds. And then it's not possible to use this interface, not even for a ping. I can restart the network and then I can again connect to another computer. If I only start a ping the "connection" holds for about a minute.
I have tried also the 2.4.23 and 2.4.26 kernels with build in drivers and there is no Problem. My linux-router runs with a 2.4.23-kernel and the same networkcard for a few months without any problems.
Has anyone experience with this combination?
Eh...
I have a Sager Np8890 with a Realtek-8169 LAN card and with kernel above 2.4, i can't ever get it to even work at all... I'd really love to get some more infos on when up-dated drivers would be ready?
R8169 related questions
The current r8169 maintainer is rumored to read the l-k mailing list or netdev (netdev@oss.sgi.com). Submitting a bug report at http://bugzilla.kernel.org could be an option as well.
Advice of the day:
- try kernel 2.6.8-rc4-mm1
- avoid gcc 2.95.4 on any > 2.6.6 kernel version
- avoid gcc 2.95.3 on non recent -mm kernel version
- disable acpi
