I'm using an ancient Digital PC 3000 for a simple LAMP server running 1 low traffic intranet site. Running a PHP script which runs 1 fairly lightweight query can take between 1 & 2 seconds.
I'm using Slackware-Current's standard 2.4.26 kernel, but was wondering if I could improve performance by switching to a 2.6 kernel. Are there any patches that would help?
Or is there truth to the idea that you should use 'old kernels for old computers' and go backwards? I can't believe that going back to a 2.2 or 2.0 could actually help things...
Where I work has a bunch of these old Digitals laying around and they make handy little Linux boxes, so I'd like to know how to get them flying the best!
Thanks in advance!
