When I tried Reiser4, I had no problems with it (about a month ago). Other then the fact that the last sources are for 2.6.5-rc2, why else hasn't it been merged into the -mm tree yet?
Well, I'm guessing the fact that it apperently wont work for your root file system is why at the moment, but how long away until its put in there at least as an experimental option.. Can't hurt ;)
It should work for the root fs, you just can't remount it. So add rw as kernel parameter and edit your init scripts so that they don't try to remount /.
Reiser4 in MM
