Try update your BIOS. And use then the better libata SCSI. Disable the
generic IDE driver, compile SCSI in the kernel and use under SCSI low level drivers the right one for your via sata board.
You have then SCSI devices /dev/sda,... and maybe you have to edit the fstab for the new partitions names.
