blah

I missed class today, as I woke up at about 4pm. I went to bed at my usual time, but I woke up late and with a crappy headache. Oh well. Last night I had to take apart my laptop and resolder the power connection. HP didn't make things particularly easy; once I got it split into halves, I had to take apart basically the entire lower half of the thing to get to the board with the power connector. I applied some superglue as well to give it some mechanical rigidity. By the time I got it back together it was about 4am. It appears to be working fine, and today I put the battery back in and ran a calibration cycle on it. It hasn't burned the house down yet but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. A new battery is like $120.

I tried to take care of things today that I've been putting off, but I don't feel like a made a whole lot of progress. I got Lisa's oil changed, bought weed killer for the lawn, ordered brake parts for the Honda, and some other stuff too, but in spite of all that, not too much got checked off on the to-do list for the day. The only thing that I had on my to-do list of those items was the weed killer; the rest of the stuff wasn't on my list. I guess I'm livin' in denial and repressin' rage! (Clerks quote.)

Almost everybody I dealt with today was either in a crappy mood or just looked tired and worn out. I think that's part of the reason why I'm sort of "blah" today. In spite of the natural beauty, Kitsap County is really depressing.

Been there done that...

Besides many other problems I've see people having with HP notebooks in general, the power connector is one of the most common problems I see in my shop. I've already had to service 3 or 4 this year where the thing either has split in two, come off the board, or both.

I've gone so far as to start replacing them with regular jacks from the parts house instead of the flimsy ones that are oem and just modifying the chassis to fit it.

I don't think I'd buy another one

I worked great for about a year, but I swear things started going to hell about 12-13 months after I bought it. I'd love to have a laptop that isn't a space heater either; I'd sacrifice computing power for that.
