KernelTrap has undergone an upgrade to version 4.0 of the Drupal content management platform. Please let me know if you encounter any bugs or other problems created from this upgrade.
I am in the process of restoring the main theme to include pictures for each section, as well as the colored date stamps for each section in the Navigation block. I will also be introducing a few new themes and features over the next few days.
Questions? Comments? Suggestions? All appreciated... :^)
Not half bad so far ;-)
*grin*

You'll notice you can even go back and edit your comments now... (A much requested feature)
re: Not half bad so far ;-)
Is this a hint that my comment was crap? ;)
re: Not half bad so far ;-)
lol... not at all. :)
How?
There's only two buttons - "administer" and "reply to this comment" with the first one saying I'm not allowed to...
Oh now I see it. I can only ever edit my last comment or maybe just not the ones someone has already replied to...
If your comment has been repl
If your comment has been replied to, you can no longer edit it.
re: Dates in "Sections"
This feature will be restored soon. Within the next day or two, hopefully.
re: Bug or just haven't had time?
Sorry, it's a time thing. My old method was rather MySQL intensive, which caused issues when under a heavy load. I want to do it better this time, but sadly haven't given it the necessary thought.
Would you believe "soon"? ;^)
re: Thanks for the update
I didn't mean to be slow, but finally the mod dates are back. Enjoy... ;)
I am remembered!
Hey my login is remembered in-between sesssions now - I am happy.

Great Job
I'm extremely happy not to have to log in every time I open my browser. Any chance of moderation or sorting by score being added? It would also be nice to have Preview and Post as options on the first comment screen, I can proof-read while I type. ;-)
re: Great Job
Glad you like it! :^)
Unfortunately, comment moderation/scoring is not supported with this release. It's possible to add it back in should I feel so ambitious, but it's not currently high on my list of priorities.
As for the request to add a Post button on the first screen, sorry - you'll need to preview at least once. I'm not going to change that.
moderation/scoring
The new site design is great. Thx for your affords!
If possible I suggest to reintroduce moderation/scoring, as I think this feature increases the "being involved"-part a lot and may also make users read other user's comments.
Looks good so far
Some of the new blocks are cool, the Who's New in particular. Will you be restoring the submission queue or should we resubmit stories? The ability to edit posts is cool, will this feature be extended to stories submited?
re: Looks good so far
Whoops - looks like it was dropped, indeed. Sorry about that - the stories will need to be resubmitted.
Personally, what I like best
Personally, what I like best is (a) the fact I no longer have to log in every 5 seconds, and (b) the fact that it will tell me about any new comments since my last visit.
That aside, I'm curious to know how Drupal 4 keeps up the next time kerneltrap.org gets slashdotted.
Submiting Stories
The story submit screen I see has not way to seperate the body of a story from the abstract. Is this a bug?

re: Submiting Stories
This is actually a new feature. (No, not the joking software development kind) You put the whole story in one box, then click preview... In the next screen there will be two boxes - the abstract is automatically pulled from the body. However, at this point you can modify it as you see fit...
I have mixed feelings about this strategy. Especially the way the abstract is not showed with the story anymore... We'll give it a try anyway, before I consider patching back to the old method. :)
ok
ahh thanks ... that will work fine.
Summary of how you did the upgrade?
As one who is running a small druppal 3.x site and has been pondering the possiblity of upgrading to 0.4 I'd really be interested in hearing about what procedures you used to move your content to the new version, and in particular what problems, if any, you ran into. :-)
re: Summary of how you did the upgrade?
The process is impressively simple. The only bugs I ran into were ironed out long before the official 4.0 release (during the pre-release phase).
Essentially, I got rid of all the old drupal files (by moving them into a subdirectory, just in case I needed to roll back) then extracted the new (4.0) files. Then, run the update script and follow the directions. That's it...
Don't forget you'll need to update the new themes (your old ones won't work) and be sure to back up your existing MySQL database just in case. Test it all out first, and you'll find the process is mostly painless. Enjoy!
Still seem to get the logging off problem.
I think this is cuased by being logged on at home and work. Does Drupel only use one session cookie and invalidate old ones from different machines?
