I have successfully installed and tested the xine DVD player
software with the 2.6.0 kernel with Fedora Core 1.
I used the following installation files:
xine-ui-0.9.23.tar
xine-lib-1-rc3a.tar
libdvdcss-1.2.8-1.i386.rpm
It was also necessary to modify my /dev directory as follows:
Create a symbolic link to /dev/dvd as follows
ln -s /dev/hdc /dev/dvd
( Assuming that you have an IDE DVD drive mounted as master on
the secondary ide controllery port )
The computer has a 4X lite-on brand DVD read /write ,
700 MHZ duron processor , pci slot sound blaster card and a
NVIDIA TI4200 graphics card using the latest 2.6 patched
nvidia driver NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-5328-pkg0.run.
The video driver is found at www.minion.de
With the above set up I can play encrypted commercial
DVD movies. My system is dual boot with Windows ME and
Fedora Core 1. When I run the DVD player under Windows ME
I see noticeable , delays in the movie frame update.
The display seems noticeable smoother with xine / Fedora Core /
Kdesk / and the 2.6.0 kernel.
