Background: Our application delivery network service provides global sub-second response times for Web applications that are located in a centralized data center. It's the type of generation jumping advance that has inspired a roster of tier one venture capital firms to invest more than $21M in us. Although we are a start-up in pre-profit mode, we have customers and cash through 2004. Of value to you is working in a contagiously creative environment of incredibly gifted programming talent.

Using core internet protocols, our firm architects, designs and develops innovative implementations in C for Linux and/or FreeBSD. We must deliver on challenging performance and scalability targets. What this means to you, our developer, is that the bar is raised from a design and efficiency standpoint in terms of the quality of your code.

Now we need a creative, think-outside-the-box senior software developer armed with tier-one, system level Free BSD/Linux system-level C coding skills to help us maintain our technical edge.

To compete you need five years of programming employment working in either high-performance networking or operating system code development. We want someone who has focused on C, and added C++. Java and GUI work is not relevant here. Salary ranges from $100k to $120k (for water walkers).

In this hands-on position we hope you can address our needs in these development areas:

• Linux, FreeBSD kernel development including
• strong network layer three and transport layer four network stack experience
• Multi-threaded/concurrent programming experience
• Expert socket programming
• In-depth network protocol knowledge (HTTP, IP, TCP, UDP, DNS)
• Performance tuning
• Exceptional problem-solving capabilities
• Ability to understand the scalability and throughput considerations involving Kqueue and forward acknowledgement of TCP/IP.

Academically we need no less than a BSCS; MSCS is to our liking; our founders are Stanford PhDs in computer science. Be prepared to submit a code sample for review.

Once trust is established here we can promise you exceptional flexibility in terms of your commute. If you want to work 3pm to midnight, that's fine with us. There is the possibility of some telecommute.
