As part of Cisco's Software Operations team, we are looking to build our Open source software Engineer team with experience in (GPL, LGPL, BSD) open source licences.

This is a highly critical position as whoever comes in will be evaluating Cisco's software code with Open Source licences and making sure code meets the license and does not violate.

Review, evaluate, and recommend approval of SW engineering requests for the use of Open Source Software, primarily evaluating inbound technology licenses. Provide approval recommendations based on legal and technical criteria for use of open source in products, as well as outbound contributions. Work closely with the Cisco Legal department. Provide technical guidance to the engineering community, working with engineers to ensure open source is used in accordance to license restrictions and company policy.

Skills Required:
Knowledge and understanding of common Open Source software licenses and software development practices. Experience with LINUX operating systems. Knowledge and understanding of the following computer architecture concepts: User space, Kernel Loadable Modules (KLMs), static and dynamic linking. Experience with C/C++ and Java programming languages, and has a strong background in software design.

Candidate must interfaces cross-functionally at the working team level with engineers and attorneys, and model exemplary team interaction. Excellent communication skills as well as a confident demeanor, and amiable attitude with focus on driving collaboration and problem resolution are vital to success in this role. Individual should be very organized and thorough.
