Nested folders in XP and win 2000

i am using windows 2000 professional and making use of nested folders to organize my daya. it was quite surprising for me that afte 7, 8, nested folders i am unable to create a new folder in it he message appears that "unable to create new folder because the directory name is too long" another intresting thing is inthe last nested folder created if i put some data e.g. pics they are not being opened witb he same bullshit message.
can some body hel me why is it so, and how it would be retified

you can't go faster than the speed of light, you can't buy the world, you can't help everyone, you can't live forever. there are limits on lots of things, even path name length and directory nesting depth. these limits may depend on the file system type: if you are using FAT instead of NTFS, or if you are burning CDs, the traditional DOS limits may apply.

for a system without arbitrary limits (not even #defining PATH_MAX in the system headers) look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_Hurd
