I haven't blogged in a month. It seems that I blog the most when there is the least stuff going on. What does that tell you about my priorities? I think the truth is that I just don't want to blog about something until I have a chance to process it myself.
The previous couple month's events:
- Kari and I split up: I'm not going to elaborate too much here, but basically, Kari and I disagreed on her priorities, especially those that affected her work / life balance. Her new job made an old straining point just snap. Of course there might be 1000 other annoyances, but for me, that was it. Kari and I are being civil, and since we were friends before we dated, we're doing our best to try and maintain that.
- I was depressed about this, and as Neil and Jorge can attest to, I moped about it for a couple of weeks. However, I decided to throw up a personal ad on Craigslist, and while the usual freaks respond, I've managed to talk to a few very interesting women.
- I went to L.A. a couple of weekends ago, and in the process, took the FJ on its first interstate trip. It's great on the road. Also in the trip was the rescue of a girl who managed to have her engine destroyed by incompetents that didn't think tightening the oil filter was really necessary. I saw Jorge and his girlfriend Senia (they have the most comfy couch for sleeping that I've ever slept on), as well as Erik and Jim. It was a good trip.
- Yesterday began a new automotive chapter for me....after not having success with selling the El Camino, I decided to take an offer from a guy, and I traded it for a 1986 Toyota 4Runner. I'm not sure if I'll keep it or not, but I do like having a spare vehicle, and a somewhat shitass one. This particular one is pretty rough; and looks like it had some serious off-roading (smuggling?) duty in it at some point. Actually, I'm just kidding on the smuggling...the thing is ridiculously slow. The Porn Starlet (for those who remembered it) would have smoked it. But the 4 wheel drive works, and from what I've read, the 22RE engine is really well made, so maybe it's worth working it up into a bit better shape. It has A/C, which is a step above the El Camino, so maybe it could be a somewhat more fuel efficient commuter than the FJ Cruiser. I've put on over 5000 miles on the FJ in the month and a half that I've had it, which I'm not thrilled with.
- I'm playing in a psychobilly / cowpunk project. It's a completely different direction for me, but the guys in the band are really great, and of the projects I'm doing, this is currently my favorite.
- I'm not sure what's going to become of the other two projects. Right now the metal project is going OK, but the drummer basically can't do more than three hours a practice, two days a week. I personally don't feel like this is conducive to getting anywhere. In the interim, the guitarist and I are working on a punk project.
Psychobilly
Sweet. I love that sound. Any plans on switching to an upright?
no plans at the moment
You like that clickety clackety bass sound?
How about a Taxpayers CD, wanker?
Engine
You need an engine for that thing I know the place!
how many 22R's does it take...
Seriously, I have 3 of them right now, so if you need any parts...
Don't feel bad about the FJ's mileage, I've only had my Cooper for 3 weeks and it's got 4500 miles on it already. Drive the wheels off, I say.
22RE parts
Yeah, I need timing chain stuff....I think mine in rubbing up against the guides.
The Wootness
I'd disagree that you moped; I think it was more of an "out-loud," active enumeration of all the things that you thought might have been subject to change, given time, but needed an ear to confirm or deny that. Hearing those points and debating the capacity of people to change brought about your resolve, and evolution, eventually. So...I'd say it wasn't really moping per se. But I will say that I was just about as tired as hearing the same things over as you were. OK, end serious mode.
Congrads about the road you're travelling down now, by the way. It seems as if all these wacky and wild things have happened to you in the past two weeks, all fun, all positive things, and ultimately, you are very much a brighter, happier guy as a result. Kudos.
The other night when we replaced a tie-rod(?) on the 4Runner, gave it an oil change, and tried to get the AC functioning I think I learned more than I had in the past two years, and I appreciate the opportunity. Though I'm not a fan of staying up till four AM, it was /almost/ worth it! :) Good stuff.
Also, I'm very glad to hear the metal project and your newfound friends from the rockabilly effort are seemingly panning out. Music seems to be so critical to your fulfillment, and I'm glad the direction you're in right now is pleasing to you. Well, the three directions or so you're in right now. :)
Keep it up, and keep us informed as always, mon capitan.

We changed the idler arm...and yeah, it sort of sucked. Not to mention that you braved a 7000 degree oil filter during the oil change.
Thanks man.
I'm certainly glad you found
I'm certainly glad you found your way through.
