Can OM's wiki be used offline?

Hi All,

In the sight of upcoming delivery of our 10-pack, we wanted to get ready
to do some testing on the spot, ie when we get together and open our
boxes, to power then up and try to make sure that all of them work in
the 'similar' fashion (GPS, GSM, etc) so if there is a defective unit,
we could localize it easily since we will have a few of them and a few
of SIM cards to try ;-)

But if smth doesn't work, of cause, the best way is to lookup on the
wiki and we will not have (I think) internet ...

Re: Keyboard missing forward-slash key

It seems to me that the lack of the slashes on the 0 key must be due
to a bug or a problem reading the KP_0 line of the file.

In order to overcome this it might be worth:
- slashing-out the + in the .conf file
- changing the order of the characters (putting the + at the end?)
- removing the backslash

I'll maybe try this once I have networking up.

Any update on Windows connectivity yet?

One of my bulk order buyers has prompted a question about whether there
have been any advances with connecting a Freerunner to a Windows PC?

Last I tried mine on an XP laptop, it detected a device but wanted
drivers to communicate.

Couldn't find anything relevant on a search at openmoko.markmail.org

Hi there,

It looks like my problem with SIM registration [1] may be easily
solvable simply by trying a different SIM or reseating the current one.

But because I'm fetishistic about following battery charging
instructions I don't want to try this (which requires removing the
battery) until the unit is fully charged.

The wiki [2] says:

The battery can be charged using the provided charger (at 1000mA)
or from a powered USB port capable of providing 500mA worth of
current. Most c...

Re: Setting / checking fast charge in /sys/devices/platform/...

The charger is dumb, but has a 47k resistor from the ID pin of the USB
connector to ground. This allows the Freerunner to identify it as capable to
provide 1000mA. See the USB Host section of:

Different ways to boot an image?

My new FreeRunner is working fine. I pulled the SIM out of my el-cheapo Nokia 7-11 SpeakOut (AT&T) pay-as-you-go phone, and put it in the Neo, and lo and behold I'm making and receiving calls.

I'm trying to understand what are the different ways to boot a kernel and rootfs image, and what are the pros and cons of each.

I'd be glad to turn this into a WIKI page and/or edit existing ones. But first I'll ask here.

So far I've come up with this list of ways to boot:

New Freerunner, factory image - "Registering..."

Hi there,

So my Freerunner arrived this evening, I plugged it in and started
charging and it powered itself on. I _love_ that kernel messages are
displayed during boot-up, and the plastic of the Freerunner's case
has a really nice feel to it.

Anyway, once booted to the factory image I get continuously a
"Registering..." message in the top-left corner of the Home screen.
After 30 minutes or so this message persists.

Re: New Freerunner, factory image - "Registering..."

I ran into that immediately. The terminal is unusable without a slash key. That tells me that nobody is actually using that terminal app to do anything, but rather that it's only been used tethered by USB.

But I looked and couldn't find a bug report on this. Is it possible that nobody has yet filed a bug report to add a slash key to the keyboard?

I was looking forward to using it as a little handheld WiFi SSH terminal emulator. I'm sure it'll get there eventually.

I haven't yet read the posts alluded to by arne anka & ian douglas,

The GPS performance of my Freerunner is also much worse than
the GPS performance of my neo1973. I've done side-by-side tests of the
two units many times. My neo1973 gets a good fix in 2 to 3 minutes
after a completely cold start; it's very reliable. My Freerunner
initially was getting a fix after 7 or 8 minutes. For the last few
