Hi,

A friend and myself are planning on contribute to TangoGPS. Looking for
the git / svn repository we can pull the latest source from? Does anyone=
=20
know if a repository for tangogps exists? The latest on the tangogps.org=20
website is 0.9.3, release in march.

Glen Ogilvie

Hi Glen,

the last release was from end of August ;-)

I have the next release ready and will try to get it out this week.
Am still developing tarball only but will switch to GIT and put up
somewhere a repository.

Hi Marcus,

Do you plan to improve threading model of TangoGPS? I've looked into the code
at some points and found it horribly violating POSIX recommendadtions.
We're looking for some simple GPS application to use in our project and
I consider TangoGPS as well. But if it won't get better we'll have to either
fix it by ourselves or likely choose other application as a base. Don't take
this question offensive - I'm just wondering, because I have to make my
choice without further regrets.

Hello Marcus,

Is it somehow planned to have a feature in TangoGPS that it let me
pick-up a POI from the database and moves TangoGPS to that position as
the current lat/long, i.e. center this position in the map, and even with
the stored zoom level when it was entered into POI database?

Would be nice...

Thx

I tested it and at least the address query works great! I didn't test
if it actually adds it to tangogps but I can see the POI suggestion on
map and so on. Well done, more applications like this are needed, that
combine the capabilities of Freerunner (gps+internet in this case). It
would be nice to have this integrated in Tangogps itself.

Hey!
since it is a one man show I think there is no public repository.
But the guy behind it, Marcus Bauer, is a really friendly german guy.

Have you contact him already? this might be the best way to find out ;)

You could start your own git repo from the latest available tarball.
That will help you keep track of your own work, and it should also be
trivial to merge in future updates from Marcus.

Can only confirm this - but last time I managed to get in touch (around
august ) there wasn't a public repository as the SW was still too much in a
flux.

Presumably sending patches is fine - I find myself in the same situation:
the diff is becoming larger and larger, but the time and effort necessary to
port it to the next release just doesn't seem worth cleaning it up
appropriately sometimes :-(

Hi!

I've also requested a public code repository from Marcus some months
ago to allow the community to help in the development, he said that it
all will come later: svn/git/bzr repository, mailing list and so on
(ps: there is a foss-gps mailing list at
http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/FOSS-GPS that's a good place to discuss the
development of foss-gps software, for example tangogps, you're all
welcome to join!! There are some really skillful people who work with
GPS software full time and really can give you some valuable tips!).
He said that the best way to help is to spread the word and send
patches.

You also might want to contact this guy:
http://projects.openmoko.org/users/gecco/ who works on this project:
http://projects.openmoko.org/projects/gtkaddpoi/ - you both are
working on Tangogps so co-operation would not be bad!

A word more about foss-gps: the idea behind it is to try to connect
foss-gps-software (&hardware) developers and share ideas. Also it's a
place for smaller projects, like tangogps, who don't have their own
mailing lists, can discuss the development and also manage support
issues. So all tangogps users, you're welcome to join there! For more
information, check

Hello,

I don't know about the git / svn repository; but may I put something on
your bugfix list :-)

while porting tangoGPS 0.9.3 to FreeBSD 7.0R and using it against the
gpsd on my FR I encountered that the IP addr (and port) of the gpsd is
hardcoded to 127.0.0.1 (in src/main.c); tangoGPS should respect what the
user before has configured as host for the gpsd; it does know it from
the gconf config file but you have to go to the config-tab in tangoGPS
and press there the button to make use of this IP addr;

Thx

btw: this is really cool GPS when you traveling around with your Linux
or FreeBSD based laptop (for example with the small eeePC 900) and
having the FR as your GPS device, but the maps of tangoGPS on your bigger
laptop screen!
