Hello there,

Is there a special reason/philosophy for not having colored output
from ls, grep and family ?
I know there is gnuls and family, but still, why we don't have them in
bsd tools ?

I would like to implement it, if possible.

We're still arguing about the font support, in particular there are
still some developers who have different approaches for handling the
right-to-left languages.

I'm making fun of you. We aren't going to add it, ever.

Ok I got it, it was just a question.

A test on lab rats showed that color-ls causes eye cancer in most subject
exposed long enough to crapy color schemes used by the gnu version of ls.

Seriously most colors used in terminal apps fail in one or the other way.
The cyan and bright yellow fonts for example used by many apps are just
unreadable on my non l33t terminals (white background). So I need to fixup
all vi installs on lunix to ":syn off" or I would go blind and don't get me
started about colorls and seeing output of it *blink*.

It took me hours to find or configure the few colorful courses apps that I
use. I don't want to spend hours figuring out how to make ls and grep
behave normal. If you need colors in ls use "pkg_add -i colorls".

a little tip, if you're on some foreign system with the other ipcalc
(not pyr's more sane version) installed, don't even think about running
it without eye protection. and probably some plastic sheeting over the
keyboard. yeeeuw.

"TERM=vt220 <shell>" usually cures the bloody colors.

You need to fixup all your terminal colors.
