| Michael | high temp Acer Aspire 3000 and current
I've been trying to run OpenBSD on my laptop, but keep having high
temp problems. Perhaps related to the acpitz problem?
All I have done is login at console. Nothing else is running. sysctl
hw.sensors shows (fan is blowing high speed):
hw.sensors.acpitz0.temp0=56.00 degC (zone temperature)
hw.sensors.acpiac0.indicator0=On (power supply)
hw.sensors.kate0.temp2=67.00 degC
I installed FreeBSD 8.0 for comparison and to see how it works with my
broadcom 4318.

| nixlists | Usb printer problem after upgrade
Hi.
I upgraded from a few months old -current snapshot to the August 1
i386 snapshot, and now any attempt to write to /dev/ulpt0 (my usb
printer) results in "Device busy." Booting with the old kernel - no
problem, I can print. Is this a bug in the new snapshot? Is anyone
else having issues with their USB printers with this snapshot?
Thanks.

| rhsv6 | bgpd - How to append (not replace) communities ?
Hi,
At the moment, in my bgpd.conf, I've got the following amongst my
import filters :
# Set communities (AS64515)
match from group "AS64515" community 64516:* set community delete
64516:*
match from group "AS64515" set {community 64516:2,community
64516:64515}
Basically the goal is to :
(1) Remove any communities that would match those I use internally
(i.e. 64516:*)
(2) Append my communities to existing communities being received.
Number two is where I'm having problems. For ...

| stolendata.net | Re: 24->16 bit audio
Where did you get this number from? A 16-bit source signal has, on a
0.3V analog output, a resolution finer than 0.000005 volts per step,
which is a voltage so tiny that it gets lost several times over in the
SNR already at the DAC stage of a fine "HiFi soundcard" - before the
signal has even had a chance to disappear in the natural noise of
audio cabling and the amplifier stage.

| Remco | 24->16 bit audio
I was looking at the Alesis iO|2 USB audio interface. It seems like a nice
device, especially since it appears to comply to both the USB-audio as well
as the USB-MIDI standard, see:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/
questions/linux-hardware-18/2-soundcards-alesis-io|2-and-nvidia-ck804-512025/
However, it appears to limit audio to 24-bits @ 44.1/48kHz.
To my understanding, applications accessing this device through libsndio will
use its native resolution. For applications requiring 16-bit ...

| Jacob Meuser | Re: 24->16 bit audio
I believe mplayer should work at 24 bits with a 24-bit uaudio.
I don't recall if I tried that or not.
yes, not many applications support 24-bit audio, so you'll need
aucat for "general use". works fine for me. note: if you have
an azalia you might be able to make it use 24-bit in the hardware
to get an idea.
there may be some applications/libraries that could support 24-bit
but don't. perhaps there are some ports that could support 24-bit
formats but don't. gstreamer comes to mind. ...

| Alexandre Ratchov | Re: 24->16 bit audio
The trunctation of least significant bits is equivalent to
around -96dB noise. This is not far from what mixers,
preams, cables, etc generate.
The aucat resampler generates a slightly audible noise, so
it shouldn't be used when recoring if quality is important.
I'd recommend, completely avoiding resampling by using a
common sample rate for all recordings and/or resampling
off-line at the end.
so, yes, aucat is equivalent to a 16-bit device as long as

Hello,
There is a trouble switching keyboard maps in 4.8-BETA:
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Keyboard0"
Driver "kbd"
Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
Option "XkbLayout" "us,ru"
Option "XkbOptions" "grp_led:scroll,grp:ctrl_shift_toggle"

strange, but this only adds only "us" layout, so I've put
setxkbmap -layout us,ru
into my .xsession file, and after that everithing works fine.

Peter,
We purchased a couple of VIA C7 machines, specifically the NFR7500 for
use as firewalls
(http://www.via.com.tw/en/products/embedded/ProductDetail.jsp?id=341),
and had an insane number of problems with the network interfaces, to the
point of them being unusable (namely, they could not keep a link).
We ended up just returning them; a Ubuntu Live CD worked perfectly, but
4.7 would not play nice with them.
Just throwing that out there, you aren't the only one who has had issues ...

Hi,
I actually had that in there "just in case". I took a small break from
this (hence the late reply -- just too frustrating).
So it looks like the so-libs aren't stripped but fireforx-bin is. I
found it's unstripped copy in dist/bin under
pobj/mozilla-firefox-3.6.8/mozilla-1.9.2/. Running that version
produces a core with not too useful of a backtrace [1].
This is looking too strange. So I wrote a tinsy program that loads a
.so file just to see if the problem is a more system-wide one ...

You can still use the vSphere Client and point it to the ESXi server,

In fact, from the free ESXi web interface you can download the vSphere
