At my place, requests for exceptions come to me, and I normally turn
around in a day or so, unless I missed that email (emails are broken

Subject: Re: Printing schemas
The FAQ has nothing to say about printer setup, and certainly makes no
recommendations. The Google-hit articles that address printing are
fairly old and/or written by people who don't appear to be close to the
OpenBSD or any BSD. I wanted to know what the developers do.
I've already setup lpd on the XP box, but there's certainly more to it
than that. The "more to it" is what I'm looking for.

OpenBSD, the project, doesn't seem to have a preferred method of
printing.
What do OpenBSD, the developers individually, prefer?

Any printer that groks postscript and either has a parallel port, a
usb port that acts like one, or lpd support over net.

Hi guys,
Here is a screenshot of what the IT guys at my work thinks of OpenBSD. Before I
took this screenshot I could access www.openbsd.org for about an hour. After
that I started getting the message you see on the included pic.
Is this a bad case of paranoia? :-)
Thank You
Danny

Nope, just went there to download the pf-faq.pdf so that I could print it (on
company printers, with company paper off course :).
The weird thing though is that ftp to ftp.openbsd.org is not a problem.

Not surprising at all. I have had to get special dispensation to access
undeadly.org, download nmap source, and several other sites with tools that
I use.
The classifications are made by teams of people who have very little
understanding of what the sites actually contain. A lot of breast cancer
advocacy sites get misclassified top, fwiw.

Okay, if it makes them feel better, maybe you'd like to inform them
that Cisco [1], Sun [2] and even Microsoft [3] (among others [4])
trust the people behind the OpenBSD project.

Hi,
You do have a valid point there. But what could there possibly be on

start hacking .... NOTHING I hope :)

Did you download any ports? I know a lot of IDS vendors trigger when
they see "hacking tools" like nmap downloaded via FTP, so then they
blocked access.

Those really only tell you if the patch was applied to the source, not
that you successfully installed the patched binary.
It's also not useful if you upgrade from patch to patch via make release
+ install.

First things first. You will probably need to put it into a ms-windows
machine with the vendor/carrier provided software to do the initial
device configuration (e.g. "activation" including getting the prl and
similar downloads).
As mentioned, there are typically more than one serial ports on these
devices. Only one of the serial ports is used for the connection, while
the others are for undocumented "management" purposes. You'll need to
