I tried these commands and i got the "you have mail" alert.
But again, i don't get such a notification when i have a new mail from
my system.

I'm using ksh.
$ echo $KSH_VERSION
@(#)PD KSH v5.2.14 99/07/13.2
It is OpenBSD 4.6 GENERIC.MP#1 i386
