Is it possible: IPsec tunnel with no static addresses?
A friend and I are both on dynamic IP residential broadband connections. We both use OpenBSD boxes as edge devices. We were wondering if it were possible to create an ipsec tunnel between us, even though we both have dynamic public IPs. The documentation I've read seems to suggest that at least _somebody_ must have a static IP. I can understand that at some point, needing the public IPs is necessary for setting up the tunnel, but is it possible that dyndns or some other dynamic mechansim ...

Switch to a text virtual terminal (e.g. ctrl-alt-F1), and then switch back to X.

re-enabling Emulate3Buttons after 3rd button detection
Hi all, This isn't an openbsd specific question, but I figured someone may know the answer to this. I'm lost as to what key-terms to use for searching for the answer. On a laptop with a trackpad and two buttons Emulate3Buttons in X is needed for middle-clicking. However, when one plugs in, say, a USB mouse with a 3rd button, X disables Emulate3Buttons. It logs something to the effect of: 3rd Button detected: disabling emulate3Button My question is is there a way to re-enable ...

private vlans
Does anyone has a similar howto on OpenBSD for using private VLAN's? like: http://blog.ine.com/2008/07/14/private-vlans-revisited/ I just need to separate the client's on Layer3 or better: on Layer2. Each client uses 1 port. But I'm not

Re: private vlans
What's your question? AFAICS there's nothing like "ip local-proxy-arp" on OpenBSD. Linux used to be able to do that with proxy arp entries with a mask and interface, but they've removed the feature in newer kernels. If you can live with the silliness of your end-stations not being able to talk to each other at all, this has nothing to do with OpenBSD and everything with your switch. Just put the OpenBSD router on a promiscuous (trusted) port. Even this is very far from a good solution ...

Re: reboot command doesn't work
I am running both 32bit and 64 bit as virtual Servers on VirtualBOX. Pls see my /etc/rc.shutdown file below. it is default. I just hit *reboot* command. reboot works fine on both machines. # cat /etc/rc.shutdown # $OpenBSD: rc.shutdown,v 1.7 2006/06/22 00:41:59 deraadt Exp $ # # If it exists, this script is run at system-shutdown by reboot(8), # halt(8). On Fri, Dec 31, 2010 at 1:50 AM, Markus Bergkvist We wouldn't have to play guess the machine if you sent a dmesg, but my That has nothing to do with rebooting.

Re: reboot command doesn't work
Sorry, my subject line should have been more specific..... Yes, I should have mentioned that I have tested reboot command with VMWare and Virtualbox virtual machines and it works fine. The problem is with my Compaq Deskpro DPENS-P350/6.4/N4. I have tried 'powerdown=YES' in rc.shutdown, but it made no difference. I did notice with 'dmesg', that there was an error on startup regarding "........can't enable ACPI", so I tried booting a kernel file with ACPI disabled. Still no successful ...

Re: reasoning behind default primary group being user
Hmm. (cross-posting to ppc@) Something's odd, here. On Thu, 30 Dec 2010 12:54:16 -0500 Related to adduser vs. useradd, I suppose? But, I thought I'd check the source to see which was being invoked in the install script (neither), and I discovered something odd. http://www.openbsd.org/cgi-bin/cvsweb/src/distrib/miniroot/install.sh?rev=1.214;conten... uline="${user}:${_encr}:1000:1000:staff:0:0:${username}:/home/${user}:/bin/ksh" echo "$uline" >> ...
