In the US, both NPR and PBS work that way. Fundraiser conferences might
also be good. Slackathon has, as far as the content and activity goes,
been tremendous. IIRC it brings in some money.

So that's one method that works right now. Maybe the CD distribution
can be re-modelled to work in Europe. Maybe asking those in Europe how
they deal with small transfers will result in methods with improved cash
flow.
