Re: A question about puting OpenBSD on a Soekris
That is the easiest way to do it. After the install, reboot your laptop, mount the root filesystem on the CF, change sd to wd in /etc/fstab, and make sure a serial console is set up. Then plug Or some other hardware component. Or more likely, the whole system becomes obsolete first. -- Christian "naddy" Weisgerber naddy@mips.inka.de

Re: A question about puting OpenBSD on a Soekris
In <http://marc.info/?l=openbsd-misc&m=126090233628943&w=1> Nick Holland gave a bunch of excellent reasons to just do a standard install on a cheap compact-flash (CF) card. Another point... with today's compact flash cards, you may well be able to simply ignore the issue of finite-number-of-write-cycles. For example, 2 years ago I set up a home firewall using a 1GB Kingston CF card. For precisely the reasons Nick Holland outlined, I used a standard OpenBSD install (done by plugging the CF ...

As openbsd user on soekris systems base install works as you expect from The soekris does network boot, pxe install is simple to setup. After the pxe just load the bsd.rd file and the install env is running. Running memory filesystems could be for things like /var/run /var/log etc link /tmp to /var/tmp. But for the rest it is not really needed. I think. Regards Robert

OK with one resevation you have convinced me. Let's eliminate teh reservation. One of the features of the system I chose was that it mounts the flas RO, and uses memory filesystems for volatile stuff. Is this no longer important? I have 2 existing soekris systems that have been in service for years, and have not given any trouble. I want the new ones to be equally troubel free. I've been playing around with this lately, so I'm happy to have a stab at an answer, with the caveat that this reflects a recollection of my reading of the code rather than any attempt to make it work to your requirements. Whatever I may fail to clarify, recall, or understand is best taken to suggest that you'd be best served by reading the docs in full, consulting the code as necessary. I am trying to put OpenBSD on some Soekris machines. I have looked around and fount the flashrd toolkit. Uinsg it, I was able to create a bootable compact flash image for one of the machines. Nonsense, binary firmware/microcode images are perfectly acceptable in OpenBSD, so long as the redistribution terms are clearly defined and suitable. Take a look in /etc/firmware. Binary-only *drivers* however are not acceptable, these would have to be loaded into kernel space.. performing all sorts of black magic that would complicate development. In this case, I found a site which seems to indicate a few models require a separate driver.. however it also indicates that later ...

RTF_MPATH has nothing todo with RTF_UP. RTF_MPATH needs to be set if there is a route to the same destination and priority already in the table. In other words if there are multiple routes to the destination. RTM_CHANGE will never change RTF_MPATH.

Re: pf and fragmented IPv6 packets
Hi Todd, Host1--(net1)--GW1==(tunnel)==GW2--(net2)--Host2 If Host1 sends an IPv6 packet to Host2 with an MTU too big for the GW1-GW2 tunnel then the GW1 should send an ICMP packet too big to Host1. I assume that the ICMP packet should use GW1 and Host1 unicast addresses on net1 as source and destination, i.e. the MTU would then be related to traffic going through the gateway... But this would then not handle GW1 having multiple tunnels with different MTU.. Should the source address of the ICMPv6 ...
