The only point of mounting filesystems read-only is to avoid fsck

That is the easiest way to do it. After the install, reboot your
laptop, mount the root filesystem on the CF, change sd to wd in
/etc/fstab, and make sure a serial console is set up. Then plug
Or some other hardware component. Or more likely, the whole system
becomes obsolete first.

As I've said before, I currently run OpenBSD 4.6 on a laptop that
boots a 512mb flash drive, with space to spare. If you only install
bsd, bsd.rd, base and etc, you use about 160-170mb on i386. No need
to customise or shrink down.

Nick Holland gave a bunch of excellent reasons to just do a standard

today's compact flash cards, you may well be able to simply ignore
the issue of finite-number-of-write-cycles.
For example, 2 years ago I set up a home firewall using a 1GB
Kingston CF card. For precisely the reasons Nick Holland outlined,
I used a standard OpenBSD install (done by plugging the CF ...

Take a look in /etc/firmware.
Binary-only *drivers* however are not acceptable, these would have to be

would complicate development.

Firstly, I steer clear of USB serial adaptors due to the unreliability
i have experienced from models I've used.
Secondly, if the firmware is GPL, this is a problem since GPL is not
compatible with BSD. On top of that the firmware is a sort of binary
blob, which will never be used in any OpenBSD system.
Your best bet is a clean-room reverse engineer.
Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Unlike with xen, it should not be necessary to create a different arch
to run things in qemu. I was impressed that it can happily run the 9
different operating systems I tried with it, with very few problems.
I guess it's difficult to know whether the bug is in openbsd or qemu or
both. IIRC some qemu people said it's to do with some difference in
handling / using interrupts which may be tickling a bug in qemu.
I think to fix it properly might need someone ...

| Claudio Jeker | Re: No RTF_UP after route change to an interface that is up
RTF_MPATH has nothing todo with RTF_UP. RTF_MPATH needs to be set if there
is a route to the same destination and priority already in the table.
In other words if there are multiple routes to the destination.
RTM_CHANGE will never change RTF_MPATH.

Thanks for looking into this. I've tested your patch and it seems to
work and it is more correct than what I came up with (darn it).
So with that problem solved it some other ones apparent. My
radix_multipath.c meddling had to do with priorities not being handled
correctly.
Here's how to reproduce some of the faulty behaviour:
#route add 1/8 192.168.2.2
netstat shows the route:
1/8 192.168.2.2 UGS 0 0 - 8 em0
#route add 1/8 192.168.2.3 ...

Hi Todd,
Host1--(net1)--GW1==(tunnel)==GW2--(net2)--Host2
If Host1 sends an IPv6 packet to Host2 with an MTU too big for the GW1-GW2 tunnel then the GW1 should send an ICMP packet too big to Host1. I assume that the ICMP packet should use GW1 and Host1 unicast addresses on net1 as source and destination, i.e. the MTU would then be related to traffic going through the gateway... But this would then not handle GW1 having multiple tunnels with different MTU.. Should the source address of the ICMPv6 ...

This is not correct and expains why you had to change radix_mpath.c.
If you change the rt_priority you must rebalance the dupedkey list so that
the order remains correct. It is also only necessary when the ifp changes.
So here is what I came up with that is totaly untested and maybe wrong as
well.
