Hi Folks
I am about to write an article on why I will be switching to OpenBSD
when I build my new server and would like to use the 'Puffy' logo in
some shape or form.A search of the site for a style guide or media pack has failed to turn
up anything so I thought that I would ask here: how do I obtain
permission to use the 'Puffy' logo in the article and are there variants
from which I can choose? A cropped version of what's on the front page
of www.openbsd.org would suit me fine but I don't want to start making
'derivative works' without obtaining the appropriate permissions first.Cheers

Hi!
I read there (http://www.openbsd.org/art1.html):
but do not make profit from them since our own T-shirt sales provide
funding so that OpenBSD can continue to operate.Recently it was said on a mailing list, that T-shirt sales do *not*
provide net funding, only donations and *CD* sales do. Which is true?Kind regards,
Hannah.
The project does not receive a dime from tshirt (or poster or sticker
or puffy doll) sales, and never has.Tshirt sales were setup as a 'business development' model for the two
primary resellers (high up front production cost; high storage space;
medium handling effort; but because tshirts often accompany a cdrom
sale or cdroms accompany a tshirt sale -- therefore definate volume
increases). Letting the distributors retain the tshirt profits was
supposed to balance with them giving the project a fair profit on the
sale of CDROM sales. In this latter regard there have been some
problems, which are not yet fully resolved. There's more to this story, but perhaps I'll continue it later.
Hi!
Thanks for your prompt explanation (and editing of the web page).
Kind regards,
Hannah.
I was a bit curious about that, too, but just figured it was a page left
that still needed editing.I also have a question of my own related to Puffy and, rather than start
a new thread, I'll go ahead and ask in this one since it's kind of on-topic.Before I have some weatherproof OpenBSD/Puffy stickers made up for my
own personal use, does anyone know *off the top of your head* if there
are already some out there, available for purchase, where proceeds find
their way back to the project? I'd rather buy some knowing that some of
the $$ is going to make its way back to OpenBSD than to spend the same
amount and it all go to a corporate interest.By weatherproof, I plan to stick it on my motorcycle luggage where it
will be exposed to sun, rain, snow, ice and 120km/h+ winds. Thanks!

I wouldn't mind one for my bicycle. I was thinking of using the
install packaged stickers and covering them with some clear vinyl.
Motocycle in snow and ice? And you're only concerned with having a
weatherproof sticker? ;-)
Have you checked out
https://kd85.com/notforsale.html
there are a few stickers for cars that should serve your purpose.--

Sale of the items on that page do not fund the project. Sale of those
items does not even cover the cost that Austin and I paid our artist
to draw the pictures for those items.Just keep that in mind please.
swag, and either donating it to the project outright or selling it myself
with "donation = revenue - cost". I'd have to use some outside vendor and
face the same production costs that Theo and the project do (CafePress,
anyone?). Is this something that can be handled in a decentralized manner,
or do you prefer that everything be kept under the same roof as the
CD/Poster/etc. sales? What would give the OpenBSD project the most benefit
while populating our lives with more Puffy-branded merchandise?JC Crutchfield
This is not an advert for the company I work for but I can help out in
creation of shop etc...
I work for cafepress :) I can talk to our marketing department and
arrange something.Let me know how I can help. pbhasin at cafepress dot com :)

Good to know that we have a mole in the organization. Even though Theo's
less than enthused, if anything comes of it I'm sure that the project will
still benefit.JC

I didn't realize that the money from those sales don't fund the project, and
I will keep that in mind.--

Thanks. I've had the Art page pointed out to me now, but was unable to
find it when using the site search on terms like 'logos' and 'press pack'.I will now attempt to make a contribution by suggesting the following:
* Provide a link to 'logos and artwork' or some such in the main
navigation. Linking the image is all very well, but there is nothing to
suggest that there is a link there at all.* Add text to the Art page containing terms like 'logos' so that it may
be found by the site search as not everyone will be searching for 'art'
or 'artwork'.Cheers
