From your dmesg :

| ucom0 at umodem0
You could try cu. If you're in group dialer do : `cu -l cuaU0` and

type 'ATZ' and press enter.
Perhaps you need to play with the speed of the serial device, since cu

defaults to 9600. This is the -s option.
