I'm afraid you're not paying enough attention. Of course it's there. Or
maybe you're forgetting [ is a special character for file-globbing ?

Basic unix knowledge: [ is another name for test.  The only difference
is that [ requires a corresponding ]-end marker.

Most shells have it as a built-in these days, but it's still required.
