Yes, perhaps. It made more sense to me to be more invasive so that each
driver has complete control over their own device node, because some
device drivers require multiple device nodes whose names aren't obvious
from the driver name, tty and wscons code codes to mind. In other words,
there isn't a 1:1 mapping between device drivers and device nodes, you
need some knowledge of how the driver uses the device nodes.
