Suppose it's possible. But that would break 802.11 protocol, so 
normal WLAN clients won't be able to use the AP anymore.

I know some cards with firmware that sends a "MEDIA LOST" event 
to the driver one they don't receive the beacons for some 
time ...   also, power safe wouldn't work anymore, associating 
would be impossible with most cards ...

So in short: you won't want to do that :-)
