Hi, a fix (commit 2c45cd43ff791cc4ab6a6332165ad53d7bcb3673) is included in linux-next and net-next, but not (yet?) in linux-2.6. Regards, Thomas --
From: Thomas Müller <thomas@mathtm.de> This bug was only present in -next and net-next-2.6 to the best of my knowledge, so the fix only showing up there is appropriate. --
Hi, I think I have to disagree. I hit this bug with a clean checkout of linux-2.6 and I also bisected against the linux-2.6 repo. (I did however use a Fedora rawhide kernel config as starting point, so presumably there were a lot of debug options activated) When Shirley Ma sent the fix, I did verify that linux-2.6 without the fix did not work, and that everything worked fine with it applied. Regards, Thomas --
From: Thomas Müller <thomas@mathtm.de> Indeed you're right, net-2.6 needs it too. Thanks for catching this, I've cherry picked the commit from net-next-2.6 and added it to net-2.6 Thanks again! --

This was a one-time occurrence. I don't know your policy of whether it should still be listed or not. -- ~Randy --
Let's keep it listed for some time. Thanks, Rafael --

The bug still there. I just met it. And seems its quite simple to get it
fixed.

Oh, NO. This is wrong. It will introduce other bugs. The right direction is showed in the bug entry. Thanks, --
Seems what I saw was different from this bug. So it is clear that this one line change does not relate to this bug. Sorry Thanks, --

I sent a pull request with the patch for this to Dave M. today. :-) John -- John W. Linville Someday the world will need a hero, and you linville@tuxdriver.com might be all we have. Be ready. --
And isn't this the already long-fixed commit 332ac7ff77cd? That bugzilla entry is a duplicate of https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15537 This smells like the same LOOKUP_DIRECTORY thing as the first entry, but.. These should hopefully be all fixed. There was some confusion over this, but the report that said it wasn't fixed in -rc3 was apparently not true These are merged already. Commits d558b483d5, eb9fc8ef7cb etc. Linus --
No, it's not the same thing; the fix is to have nfs ->d_revalidate() return an error on failing open attempt (in insane codepath that has ->d_revalidate() handling open()). Ok, can you do the proper changelog description and sign-offs etc? Linus --
[PATCH] Have nfs ->d_revalidate() report errors properly If nfs atomic open implementation ends up doing open request from ->d_revalidate() codepath and gets an error from server, return that error to caller explicitly and don't bother with lookup_instantiate_filp() at all. ->d_revalidate() can return an error itself just fine...
