Thank you for the deep explanation, it's more clear now.

Now I would like to clarify terminology used within Linux kernel tree:
- architecture: it obviously defines CPU type (ARM, MIPS etc.)
- machine; is this a chip based on one of the above mentioned architectures ?
- platform; is this development board housing a machine on it?
