Yup the Documentation folder has lots of interesting things! 

And for linux device drivers, read Greg K-H's book - Linux Device Drivers 3rd edition! It's one of my favorite! ;-)

Start with Documentation/HOWTO and go from there.  It is full of
resources for just what you are looking for.

Oh why doesn't anyone read the documentation...
