Hmmm.... I suppose that all the emacs tapes will make a nice bonfire!


And doable on an ASCII terminal.
 
The problem is, you have to remember those commands to use them.
Most of the population not used to computers just cannot. Doing things
(real things, not just the plainest of plain typesetting) on TeX 
usually requires a larger amount than you think of implicit computer
knowledge. (Though those things are better left to TeXackers.)
