I just installed an Intel 387DX math coprocessor in my 386-25
DX system, which has been running Linux for a while. When I boot the
DOS partition and run the test program that came with the coprocessor,
it says it works fine. But when I boot Linux, the following message
shows up in /usr/adm/messages: "You have a bad 386/387 coupling. Math
coprocessor using irq13 error reporting."
Speaking with a Linux friend, he seems to remember this was
discussed on c.o.l a few months ago. "I can't remember," he said,
"Either it was something you don't worry about, or something you can't
do anything about."
Does anyone know the details on this error message?
Is there a way to test if Linux is using the coprocessor?
I'm using a kernel which has no co-pro emulation compiled in, so I
sort of assume it is working.
Can I just ignore it?
I appreciate any help I can get. I grepped the faqs but
didn't find anything.
