hello,
We have just installed Linux 0.99pl9 using SLS on the following
configuration:
386DX/33, 4MB RAM, 120Mb IDE, 1Mb Trident VGA card.
It has two partitions:
/dev/hda1 DOS ==> 60 MB
/dev/hda2 Linux e2 File System ==> Rest.
We are facing some problems -- would some kind souls on the net help?
We don't have a swap partition, but a swap file of 8MB.
1. Sometimes, the machine seems to get very slow for a particular login
session, while other sessions run normally. If root's login is thus
affected, the entire machine seems to die slowly (getting slower and slower
till finally there is no response at all). This might be related to
swapping. Has anyone seen it before? (We haven't identified any particular
commands/programs that send it to this state).
2. Most of the time (98%), mkdir fails with error "Cannot create. No space
left on device", even though there is about 15 MB left. At some of these
times, even regular files of size > 0 bytes cannot be created. ("touch a"
will create a file called "a", but "cat > a" will produce the same error
that mkdir does.
3. "e2fsk" always gives one block discrepancy. How does one correct it?
4. Changing "bootflag" (using 'a' command in Linux fdisk) to DOS partition
has no effect on LILO. Only changing the order of entries (for DOS and
Linux) in /etc/lilo/config (and running /etc/lilo/install thereafter) makes
LILO boot to DOS next time. Is this normal?
Please reply by e-mail. We will summarize if there is interest.
Thanks in advance.
