Is there any kind of replacement console driver available for Linux that would
allow each virtual console to store output as it scrolls off the screen, so
that previously-displayed text could be displayed in a hotkey-accessed backscroll
mode? I'm thinking of something along the lines of what the "Telix" MS-DOS
communications package offers (accessed by Alt-B). I know that I can get
this functionality by using Xterms inside the X environment, but I prefer
to stay in text mode whenever possible to avoid the slowdown and memory
requirements imposed by X.
