   Apparently they cleaned up the ET4000 AX stuff in XFree 1.3 and this
   "cleaning" solved the ET4000/W32 problems.

Wrong. The fact of the matter is that the ET4000/W32 standard mode is not
fully compatible with the ET4000. 

Otherwise, it would have worked right away with any version of XFree86.

   However is does *not* use any accelerater features of the W32.
