The tcp/ip available at the time of v1.02 was, however, not as rugged as what is being finished now. Also the new XFree86 v1.3 just came out. I would suggest waiting until SLS with new tcp/ip and XFree86 v1.3 comes out, since you have waited this long. No SLS release date has been announced, but Peter is quite good about getting out new releases, so be patient. Unfortunately, some "people" have been selling SLS, while adding no value to the product. While Peter (SLS) provides SLS for free via ftp, he also sells it on floppy and CD. Peter is the one who integrates SLS, providing a stable platform. I tried not using SLS, doing the integration myself, and found it VERY time consuming. The $$$ Peter gets from selling floppy/CD SLS to people w/o net access has allowed him to continue his efforts (motivation, hardware). Recent SLS "rip-offs" have discouraged the SLS effort, but I am sure Peter will survive to provide a new release.
