In my case, with this ports line, if the emulator crashed, any system
beeps after the crash would not stop.  If you don't mind not having sound,
you could use:
        ports { readonly 0x42 }
which appears to work.  Of course, this assumes you have added the
diff[123456] patches, which include read-only ports.
