Hmm. I tried both gzipped and not gzipped. Of my 8 MB, with the not
zipped one 7384k is left. With the zipped one it was a few kilobtyes
less.

What do you mean with 'loading at 1M'? Does a gzipped kernel place
itself above the 1M mark if it doesn't fit below?
